“Divide each difficulty into as many parts as is feasible and necessary to resolve it, and watch the whole transform.” -Rene Descartes

Descartes was onto something. Habit change is hard! We all know that. If it weren't, most of our struggles would never be struggles. We'd eat well, move more, sleep enough, manage stress, build and maintain strong relationships, and keep our homes and belongings and schedules neat and organized. But we don't.

Descartes was onto something. Habit change is hard! We all know that. If it weren't, most of our struggles would never be struggles. We'd eat well, move more, sleep enough, manage stress, build and maintain strong relationships, and keep our homes and belongings and schedules neat and organized. But we don't.

Finding ways to make some of these important habits smaller and easier to achieve is the key. Helping people to do just that has become my purpose. I'm a wife, mom of five (now adult!) kids, a grandma of three, and a deep thinker. I am also the owner of three autoimmune diseases—Type 1 diabetes, Graves’ disease, and celiac disease. Because of these chronic conditions, I've had to create and implement multiple new habits to learn to live well.

Those cumulative diagnoses are what sent me on a quest to discover what went wrong. What I learned about health and wellness turned my understanding upside down. Discoveries about food and stress and sleep and movement shifted my focus from trying to fix the problems (although obviously that’s an ongoing quest) to trying to create wellness instead.

I’m always testing new approaches to wellness to see what works and what doesn’t, and it gives me joy to share those successes and failures with others and to watch them succeed and grow! I love learning, and as my children were growing up and leaving, I went back to school and earned a certification in Transformational Nutrition Coaching, and then became a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach.

As I was going through the board certification process, I ran across Dr. Bikman's book "Why We Get Sick." That resource truly helped me refine my focus in coaching my clients. My mission is to help women recently diagnosed with prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes to make small, cumulative changes in their lifestyle so that they can lower their insulin, lower their blood sugar, lose their extra weight, regain their energy, and do what they love rather than worrying about their health.

While I'm not coaching, I'm playing with my grandkids, cooking for church camp, biking, hiking, reading, relearning to play my oboe, and watching British mysteries.
