Insulin IQ Certified Coach
âMy life has been blessed with many rich experiences. Married for 50 years, my parents were from the Greatest Generation. My dad was a transport pilot and a decorated World War II hero. My mom was ever present - wise, devoted, loving and very, very busy!â
âIâm one of eight kids. Growing up on the Texas coast meant spending lots of time exploring the outdoors in the warmth of the semi-tropical climate. My world allowed us to experience endless childhood adventures. Ancient live oak trees welcomed any kid willing to make the climb to straddle massive limbs from which to view our colorful world. The Gulf of Mexico was our swimming hole.â

âIâm one of eight kids. The Gulf of Mexico was our swimming hole.â
âWe played ball - any kind - with the neighborhood âgangâ, nourished with peanut butter sandwiches in the paper bags we carried with us. We rode bicycles or horses or wandered on foot for miles. Any neighborâs garden hose took care of a bunch of thirsty kids. My hometown was a magical playground. We were connected by a strong sense of caring for the people in our community.â
âAfter graduating from college, I taught school as a special education teacher and immediately started work on my masterâs degree in education. I was an assessment specialist called an educational diagnostician, learning disabilities specialist, school counselor and a special education administrator for many years in the Texas public schools. I also lived in Tokyo, Japan for four years. I joined the special education community in Tokyo, where I worked with students from around the world. It was a wonderful time in my life.â
âMy professional experiences working with families and children with special needs has blessed me beyond measure. Nothing compares to the privilege of evaluating a child who is struggling to learn or just live in a body with multiple disabilities, then working with their family and many skilled educators to identify special needs and develop a plan that would help them find success at school, home, and in the community.â
âIn the middle of my life, a big surprise brought everything I knew to a full stop. I was diagnosed with late stage liver cancer. I thought I was a healthy 42 year old mom and wife. At the time of my diagnosis, I was quite active in the community. I felt fine. I didnât believe them when they told me I was âthatâ sick.â
âHepatocellular carcinoma was the big word they used to describe what was going on in my body. My expiration date was expected to be sometime during the spring of 1998. I had roughly six months to get my act together and figure out how to beat the odds against this evil intruder. My reason to stay? My beautiful daughter was 15 years old and I wasnât going to leave her behind.â
âI went through lots of medical treatments, a couple of big surgeries, chemo, and about a million scans, x rays, etc.â
âMy doctors were good people. We made a strong team. I think they were grateful that I saw myself as an equal partner, willing to take charge of my health. From my point of view, the healing work was mine to do. My medical team did what they knew to do for me, but they warned me many times that I should âget my things in orderâ. They clearly did not see a way out of my predicament. They were thrilled to be wrong.â
âAs soon as I was able, I researched what I needed to do to get my body to heal. I developed a protocol that I believed was sound based on many books I read. Cancer was determined to destroy my body, so I became more determined than cancer to heal. And my body did exactly what itâs designed to do. Iâm still here.â
âI was recently given another opportunity to heal my body. But this time, I was dealing with pre-diabetes, or insulin resistance.â
âAgain, I wanted no part of the many complications and chronic diseases associated with insulin resistance. So, I learned what to do and reversed pre-diabetes. Thanks to the work of Dr. Ben Bikman and other like minded researchers, physicians, and Insulin IQ coaches, I know exactly what to do to keep my body in an insulin sensitive state.â
âFor the record, Iâm not a hero. Iâm just an ordinary person who understands that many more people can heal from serious illness and/or chronic disease if they just know what to do and they do the work. Too many people are sick. Fortunately, a great many of those people can live full lives in healthy bodies.â
âFast forward to Insulin IQ. This amazing program is designed to teach us what we need to know, and what to do, to regain or greatly improve our health. Insulin IQ was created for everyone, to help us find our way back to becoming our best selves. Success with my personal health challenges made me want to be part of the Insulin IQ community to help others achieve what many still think isnât possible.
